Last month I joined Minister for Local Transport, Lilian Greenwood, to mark Road Safety Awareness Week.
The Department for Transport are busy preparing their upcoming Road Safety Strategy, the first national plan in over a decade to tackle the rising number of deaths and serious injuries on Britain’s roads.
People here care about road safety. On my Summer Tour, where I hosted 80 events and spoke to thousands of residents across our constituency, road safety was one of the most frequently raised issues. From speeding through our once peaceful villages to a lack of adequate pedestrian crossings, people across Northumberland are rightly calling for action. I wholeheartedly support the Government’s upcoming Road Safety Strategy, the first of its kind in over a decade, and will ensure our community sees the benefits.
The Road Safety Strategy is expected to be published soon and will mark a major step forward in Labour’s mission to restore order to Britain’s roads and protect every road user.
