During a Westminster Hall Debate in November, I marked UNESCO’s 80th anniversary and championed the North East’s contributions to global heritage, culture and industry.

Our constituency is stocked with history – from the birthplace of George Stephenson in Wylam to one of the UK’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Hadrian’s Wall. Hadrian’s Wall is an incredible engineering achievement that has left a mark on the landscape of Northern England, bringing profound historical, economic and cultural value to communities across Northumberland.

As well as celebrating what the North East has to offer, it is important to note the need for renewed investment in the region’s national parks, transport links and cultural institutions. At a recent parish council meeting in Gilsland, I discussed the need for better rural transport infrastructure with residents and I remain committed to restoring rail services to the village, opening up new sections of Hadrian’s Wall and enhancing public access to the World Heritage Site.
